He learned the art of photography in Switzerland and later worked in Italy, France and Germany. His Second World War and post war photography’s made Kilian – who worked as a photo journalist at that time – gain recognition. Portrait pieces, landscapes and cultural documentations (especially Ballet photographs) followed at a later point. The artist’s pieces related to society and politics. Central to his approach remained the human itself and the depicted reality behind a photograph.
